Turning Point USA will host a memorial event titled Freedom Built to Last, Honoring Charlie Kirk, at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, according to a report published Aug. 22. The event commemorates the cofounder one year after he was shot and killed while delivering a speech during his All-American Comeback Tour.
The private memorial is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the UCCU Center, located near the site where Kirk received a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. The UCCU Center has a capacity of 8,500 spectators and is partially owned by Utah County. Attendees must register in advance, with registration limited to one per phone number.
Speakers for the event include Andrew Sypher, the organization's field operations director; Glenn Beck, founder of Blaze Media and an opinion program host; and Frank Turek, a Christian apologist and mentor to Kirk. Turek was reportedly near Kirk when the fatal shooting occurred.
Turning Point USA stated the gathering is a deliberate act of remembrance intended to encourage students and supporters to continue Kirk's life work. The organization noted the event will honor Kirk as a husband, father, and defender of free speech.
Utah Valley University previously announced it would close its doors on Sept. 10 to provide time for reflection, service, and connection. While the campus is closing, the UCCU Center will remain open for the private event.
Following the assassination, UVU announced plans to erect a memorial monument on campus, though specific proposals from students, community members, officials, or the Kirk family have not been made public.
Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested and faces charges of aggravated murder in connection with the crime. He surrendered to authorities in the early morning of Sept. 12.
Since the death of the activist, Turning Point USA has grown to include more than one million members across thousands of high school and university chapters.
